Teeth Whitening in Midtown Manhattan

The shade you had before. Custom trays, short course.

Custom-trayed teeth whitening in Midtown Manhattan, supervised by Dr. Adam Koppelman, DMD. The most conservative cosmetic intervention in dentistry — completely reversible, no enamel touched, and often enough on its own to solve a complaint that would otherwise lead a patient to porcelain.

Teeth stain for different reasons — coffee and wine, old internal trauma, the slow yellowing that comes with the years. Each behaves differently under whitening. A program built around the cause works. A generic tray from the drugstore usually doesn’t, and tends to irritate the gum line while it’s failing.

Custom trays, the right concentration, a short course. The goal isn’t whiter than nature. It’s the shade you had before.

How it works

We take impressions and fabricate clear trays that fit your teeth precisely. You wear them at home, usually overnight, with a dose of peroxide gel sized to your sensitivity. The active ingredient breaks down the molecules that cause staining and rinses out. Two to four weeks gets most patients where they want to be.

In-office boost sessions are available for time-sensitive cases — a wedding next month, a headshot next week. The trays still come home with you afterward; the in-office session is the accelerant, not the whole treatment.

When whitening is the right answer

When shade is the only complaint. When you are not yet ready to commit to porcelain. When you want to see what you’re working with before making any larger cosmetic decision. When the issue is years of coffee or wine, not internal staining or a single non-vital tooth that has gone grey.

When it isn’t

When the staining is internal — tetracycline, fluorosis, a tooth that died from old trauma. When the smile line has visible crowns or veneers that won’t change shade with the rest of the teeth. When sensitivity is already a daily problem; we can manage it, but we want to know up front. And, occasionally, when the patient’s expectation is to be whiter than is realistic for the teeth they have. The honest conversation about what shade is even possible happens at the consultation.

Common questions

Is professional whitening safe? Yes, when done with custom trays at the right concentration. Sensitivity during treatment is common and reversible.

How long does it last? One to three years on average, depending on habits. Touch-ups can be done at home using the original trays.

Should I whiten before veneers? Often the right call. If shade alone solves it, you skip the porcelain. If you still go on to veneers, we match the porcelain to the whitened shade.

Often paired with

Invisalign — aligners double as whitening trays, and most patients whiten during treatment. Veneers when shape, not shade, is the issue — or after whitening when porcelain is still wanted. Smile makeovers when the case is broader than shade alone. And general dentistry — cleanings before whitening remove surface stain and make the gel work better.
